History
Redland Green was owned by the Lords of the Manor of Westbury and Henbury. It is the setting for the Grade 1 listed Chapel, now Redland Parish Church, which served Redland Court (now home of the Redland High School for Girls) and the local community. In 1902, 7.5 acres was conveyed free of cost to the Corporation; later a further 2.5 acres were given to the City by the Trustees of the Chapel. This area was used as allotments until 1956 and then put back to amenity land. The small section of stone wall in the dip is the remainder of the field boundary to the allotments.
Community engagement
Redland and Cotham Amenitites Society
The Redland and Cotham Amenities Society works closely with the council to improve Redland Green. In 1991, a group of RCAS volunteers designed and funded the new playground, which was fenced off from the rest of the park to provide an area free from dogs and protected from the traffic. If you would like to get involved please contact the Redland and Cotham Amenities Society.
Redland Green Community Group
The Redland Green Community Group was formally constituted at a public meeting held in June 2011. The aims of the group are to maintain, develop and promote the amenity and heritage of Redland Green for the benefit of the local community and those who use the Green For further information view Redland Green Community Group website.
