19th Century British Library Newspapers
Description: Contains full runs (where possible) of 48 influential national and regional newspapers representing different political and cultural segments of the 19th century British society. Includes The Bristol Mercury (1819-1900).

Illustrated London News
Description: Complete facsimile copy of the ILN from it's launch in May 1842 until 2003. The ILN commissioned a galaxy of great artists and draughtsmen to cover wars, royal events, scientific invention, and exploration. In 1855 it launched the world's first colour supplement. Over the years the publication played host to distinguished contributors, including Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, Wilkie Collins, Rudyard Kipling, and Agatha Christie; and artists such as Melton Prior, William Heath Robinson, F Matania, Mabel Lucie Atwell and H.M. Bateman.

Pathé News
Description: Pathé produced short Newsreels covering British cultural life from 1910 to the early 1970s. These film sources are available free as 'previews'. Relive the opening of 'The Portway' or the first arrival of the banana boats in Bristol. Do you remember the 1953 floods, the snowy winter of 1963? What about newsreels shown in cinemas during World War II? Both local and national events are captured here for posterity.

Times Digital Archive
Description: Complete facsimile copy of the Times newspaper from 1785-1985. Content from 1986 onwards is available on Newsbank. All the text is fully indexed and searchable - advertisements, captions for photographs and illustrations, personal notices, sports results, wartime casualty lists.
