This is the easiest way to pay. If you set up the payment by online direct debit you'll be given the option to pay on the 1st, 15th, or 25th of the month.
Set up a direct debit
You'll need your:
- council tax account number
- bank’s name, branch and sort code
- bank account number and name/s of account holders.

Change your direct debit details
To change your direct debit details, please fill in a new form.
You'll need your debit/credit card details and the first 11 digits of your council tax or business rates account number.
We accept council tax payments electronically from Bristol Pound accounts. To set-up regular payments from a Bristol Pound account see the Bristol Pound website.

Pay by cash, cheque or debit/credit card at any of our citizen service points. Take your council tax bill or payment card with you.
Text messaging payments
Make a payment from your mobile phone. To register you'll need:
- your plastic payment card or the 19 digit number printed under the bar code on your bill
- your credit/debit card.
You'll need to give your bar coded bill or payment card and payment to the cashier. There's no charge to pay at post offices. Make cheques payable to Post Office Ltd.

Make cheques payable to Bristol City Council. Write your council tax account number on the front of the cheque in the top right hand corner. Tell us if you would like a receipt.
Allow extra time for post as any delay could result in recovery action.
If you're a Bristol City Council employee, your council tax can be deducted from your salary. Call 0117 922 2900.
Pay your council tax in 12 monthly instalments
You can choose to pay your council tax over 12 instalments from April to March.
It's not possible to give 12 instalments for the 2014/15 financial year after the 14 April 2014. We must receive applications by 25 March 2015 to pay by 12 instalments for 2015/16.
