Music workshops are an excellent way of getting children working together and enjoying themselves. BAMS offer a variety of half day or full day workshops that are designed to enhance Arts or Culture weeks (specifically when looking at foreign cultures), or serve as an introduce to a particular instrument or musical style.
Workshops can be delivered as a half or whole day working with the same group, or as shorter sessions with a number of classes. Half a day workshops are for up to 3 hours, whole day workshops up to 5 hours. They can be delivered in school, or at the Bristol Centre for Music and the Arts, in Southmead.
Some of the most popular workshops currently offered are:
- African drumming: Literally "hands-on" drumming that will get pupils learning together through traditional African rhythms, suitable for year 6 and Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils.
- Samba drumming: Brazilian based Carnival music suitable for Years 5 and 6, and Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils.
- Singing: Full day workshops, popularly used to write and develop songs or create 'School anthems'. Suitable for all ages.
- Steel pans: Authenic sounding mini-pans that offer a taste of Caribbean tradition, aimed at Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 pupils.
- Polish music: An introduction to traditional Polish folk music.
- Gamelan: Indonesian tuned percussion instruments including sarons (metallophones), gongs and other percussion.
- Indian music: Traditional Indian instruments including tabla, harmonium and tanpura are used in this workshop, which is suitable for all ages.
Good quality, authentic Instruments will be provided for the workshops.
