Admissions
We deal with applications for residents of Bristol for Infant, Junior, Primary and Secondary schools.
Any application for a school place must be made to the Local Authority in which you live even if you are wanting a place at a school situated in a different Local Authority area. We can provide advice about schools, if the school you prefer is full and what to do if you want to change schools.
The links below will take you to the relevant pages. Primary admissions is for entrance into school when your child is aged 4-5. Choose Secondary for admissions when your child is 11 years old. For other year groups choose the In Year admissions system.
For 16 + you can find information about colleges and other opportunities. Please note that admissions must be made directly with the colleges.
How we tell you about an offer of a place
In the interest of security we cannot:
- tell you about an offer by phone
- send emails to addresses not used on the original application
- send email if you applied using a paper form
Your response to an offer must be made in writing.
Admissions policy
Can be found on the Admissions Arrangements page.
School Organisation Strategy
Local Authorities, in their role as commissioners, must plan and secure sufficient school places in their area.
The School Organisation Strategy (pdf, 2.9 MB) (opens new window)identifies the projected need for places and the actions required to ensure families have access to high quality education provision. The Strategy will be reviewed annually and specific schemes agreed in the context of available funding and demographic trends.
Additional reception places
Work continues with the aim of providing more places. Details of these and the methods of applying for them will be published on the Primary additional places update page as appropriate.
