Engineering lecture focuses on the design and build of M Shed
Release date:
Fri, 16/09/2011
On Wednesday, October 5, M Shed will host the first in a series of lectures organised by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). The first lecture will focus on the design and build of the new museum.
Ray Barnett, collections manager for Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives will talk about how the flagship museum has been designed to retain the character of the former 1950s transit shed and the challenges of delivering a £27m new museum project. The talk will also illustrate the current approach to museum displays compared to that of the Bristol Industrial Museum in the 1970s.
Dr. Russell Haines, Chair of the IET Bristol Network, said: “The opening of M Shed has been one of the most talked about events in Bristol this summer, so this is a fantastic opportunity to come and discover the story behind the development of this new landmark attraction, and to see how it has evolved from the Industrial Museum that preceded it.”
This free-to-attend event, takes place on Wednesday, October 5. Doors open at 6pm for 6.30pm start. Light refreshments available on the night. Places must be booked in advance via www.theiet.org/bristol.
