Planning the future of health and wellbeing in Bristol
The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) reports on the health and wellbeing needs of the people of Bristol. It brings detailed information on local health and wellbeing needs together in one place and looks ahead at emerging challenges and projected need in the future. The JSNA is an ongoing, iterative process, involving Bristol City Council, NHS Bristol, the Local Involvement Network (LINk) and the Voluntary & Community Sector and other partners.
The initial JSNA Baseline report was published as a comprehensive report in October 2008. This was enhanced by the 2009 Update, including additional pieces of research such as the health needs of adults with learning disabilities, and the addition of the JSNA Instant Atlas, an on-line tool for accessing the JSNA data-sets at local, ward level. The 2010 Update report provided a more strategic overview and commissioning tools to implement the changes required, plus refreshed data and links to further intelligence.
The 2011 JSNA is being developed as a full refresh of the Baseline report, re-modelled to reflect changing needs and new stakeholders. Please see the JSNA 2011 draft data-sets page.
What the JSNA will be used for
- To provide a comprehensive picture of the health and wellbeing needs of Bristol (now and in the future).
- To inform decisions about how we design, commission and deliver services, and also about how the urban environment is planned and managed.
- To improve and protect health and wellbeing outcomes across the city while reducing health inequalities.
- To provide partner organisations with information on the changing health and wellbeing needs of Bristol, at a local level, to support better service delivery.
- To be the evidence base for the emerging Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy (due to be developed by the new Health and Wellbeing Board in 2012), identifying the priority health and wellbeing issues for Bristol.
