The home authority principle
We are committed to the home authority principle. This trading standards service will give traders within Bristol guidance and help to ensure they comply with the various pieces of Trading Standards legislation.
Primary authority partnership scheme
Primary Authority is a statutory scheme, which allows an eligible business to form a legally recognised partnership with a single local authority in relation to regulatory compliance. This local authority is then known as its 'primary authority'.

National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agency Team
The National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agency Team are responsible for:
- the regulation of estate agency work in the UK
- lettings agency work in England
The team are from two local authorities:
- Powys County Council
- Bristol City Council
