A free 5 week group for expectant parents to help you feel confident about the first year of your baby's life.

Becoming a parent is a very exciting time, but it's also normal to feel nervous or daunted. Your baby's first year will be full of challenges and this 5 week programme will help answer some of the questions or concerns you might have.

Topics include:

  • what to expect during pregnancy and birth
  • baby brain development
  • infant feeding and eating
  • looking after your emotional health

If you're pregnant or expecting a baby and you live in Bristol, you can sign up to attend Welcome to the World groups. You can join from 22 weeks of pregnancy onwards.

Partners are welcome to come to the sessions too, and it's also fine to come on your own or with another relative or friend.

Course content

Week one
Your developing baby; development in the womb, empathy for your baby, nurturing your baby's healthy development.

Week two
Changes in me and you and healthy eating; consistency and boundaries, family values , family rules, and personal power.

Week three
Family life with a baby; Feelings and what we do with them, perinatal depression and handling stress, caring for your baby at night, nurturing ourselves.

Week four
Meeting your baby; self-esteem, the power of praise, helping your baby calm themselves..

Week five
Labour, birth and breastfeeding.
