Nature and wildlife conservation

The Kings Weston Estate forms part of several local Site of Nature Conservation Interest designations, including Penpole Wood and Quarry SNCI and Blaise Castle Estate SNCI. The site is designated as a Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological Site (RIGS): an important place for geology and geomorphology.

The landscape includes ancient woodlands, scrub, grasslands, avenue trees, and formal gardens. Some trees on the estate are veteran trees which are important for wildlife. Kings Weston Down is a limestone ridge which connects the site to the Blaise Castle Estate, with calcareous grassland and scattered scrub.

Volunteers help with conservation work, such as removing invasive species like cherry laurel from the woodlands. Find out how you can get involved in wildlife monitoring and conservation sessions.
