Alternative Learning Provision

Alternative Learning Provision (ALP) is usually a short to medium term intervention to work on a specific area of need in readiness for the next phase of a child's education journey.

This next phase may simply be the child being ready to be back in their mainstream class full-time, but this could also be a piece of transition support to help the child as they move into a new school.

  • Alternative Learning Provision quality assurance

    We work closely with ALPs to ensure pupils are kept safe and that they receive a quality offer.

  • Commissioning ALP

    As a Local Authority we recommend that schools commission ALPs that are on the ALP framework of approved providers, however we do not enforce this.

  • ALP framework

    Bristol Local Authority works in partnership with North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Local Authorities to produce and manage a framework of approved ALPs.

  • Full-time ALP settings

    We always try to work with schools to ensure we keep children in their mainstream school wherever possible, however for some children it may be better to consider an alternative
