Who can apply for an exemption from displaying plates

You can apply for an exemption from displaying plates if you undertake mainly executive work with your vehicle. Our  pdf Hackney Carriage and Private Hire policy (1.16 MB) explains what executive work means.

At least 75% of the work undertaken should be of an executive nature. The vehicle must be of a high standard. Drivers should have an appropriate dress code.

You must provide evidence of the reason for the request to be exempt.

If the application is for a renewal of an exemption, you'll need to provide:

  • evidence of the amount of work which was executive in the previous licensed year
  • records from the operator
